The Surrey National Golf Course
Ritson Golf Design Ltd were commissioned by The Surrey National Golf Club to look at the design of the existing course, particularly the first nine holes with a veiw to providing the very best golf experience for the members.
The first hole to be redesigned is the 8th hole, which is a short par 4 with a severe cross slope on the fairway, followed by a particularly difficult approach to the green, guarded by bunkering to the front left and back right which made the hole very difficult for most members.
Although recently designed as a championship golf course the course had many sloping areas, particularly in fairway landing zones which penalised the average golfer and were seen to be bordering on unfair. The remodelled 8th hole shall create an attractive hole with a wider landing area and create an easier approach to the green, yet still provide a strategic challenge to the golfer to be able to score well on the hole.
